The party is finished and everybody is going to sleep. I’m staying the night, just like I always do. I can’t bear to go home. Luckily everyone here is estranged from their families in one way or another so they all understand and don’t ask any questions. Sally folds the couch out, and once it’s flat I crawl under the blanket and close my eyes. I have to be up in a few hours to go to work, where I’ll serve middle aged businessmen their bacon and egg muffins before they start work for the day.
